Adrenalina - type specimen broadsheet

This is a typographical broadsheet inspired by the movement of PIXACÃO, which visually represents social inequality and focuses on social issues that Brazil faces. You probably won't have heard of this movement because the downside of living in so-called ”tropical paradises” never makes into tourist brochures.

"Adrenalina" was created in 2007 by Gustavo Lassala.
Pixação is the Brazilian word for 'tagging' and is used to visually disrupt and purposefully vandalise buildings in large metropolitan areas. Often the buildings will be tall residential complexes, where the wealthier reside. The higher the Pixo, the better. This typographic style is seen as ugly so that once completed, the building is defaced as a sign of protest. How can some live so large and leave so little for the rest of us?
I designed this broadsheet with a limited colour palette that references concrete jungles. The excessively layered typography in some areas makes the text somewhat challenging to read, drawing back to the notion that Pixação is not about being readable, it is about being visible, bringing that shock-factor to otherwise pristine surfaces. This is a movement about rebelling against the status quo, only to be painted over time and again - never being truly addressed.
